I've posted about donating to different causes, written some. But have not really written about what I do here in San Francisco. Yes I could give you a laundry list of what we do in the office. But there is so much more than that. Working in ministry is a story that keeps evolving into something more complex and beautiful. If you go into this expecting anything more than watching Jesus move in others lives (and your own) you may be disappointed.

What do I mean by that, 'expecting more'? Well, once you make the decision to go into ministry-put on your helmet its going to be a bumpy ride. You really need to count the cost to work for THe Kingdom, and be prepared to carry your cross for Christ. It's not supposed to be comfortable, or even easy. I wish it was just bout beating down the devil, listening to CCM all the time and wearing WWJD bracelets. I officially just dated myself. :)

Those who live for Christ must be prepared to die-to themselves. Die to what you think your life should turn out to be. Die to the dreams and desires (that even may be from God) that you have. Die to your expectations of what you think ministry is. By the way, if you thought ministry is only on a Sunday-its not. It's your life, you breathe ministry you live it. It's walking on a tight rope without ever getting lessons and everyone expecting you to get on the other side free and clear-on a unicycle.

Now that I have scared everyone reading this. I need to say this: It's all worth it. It's worth the long hours, the lack of sleep (I'm learning this is apparently a minister thing), the corrections, the doing things you may not understand but get the job done anyway things. It's life, its people, its seeing Jesus alive and burning in the hearts of people who have pushed away the love of God for so long. It's watching people who have just learned who that Jesus guy is-to buying a bible an staring at words-to having their heart crack day by day and finally have the revelation that they are loved.

It's about the costs. Living a life for Jesus-not just ministry is about counting the costs. In the past year my life has been turned upside down and sideways. I never thought my life would be this way. But, I never thought my life could be this way. I didn't know what fulfillment looked like until I had nothing else to give.

I am learning to come to the end of myself and reach out to Who I know keeps me going.

It's a good place to start. Surrender. Obedience. Faith.

Galatians 6:9 has always followed me around my whole life, but it means so much more to me now.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

It should sound familiar. :)

Continuing to gather,

Hey peeps!

Life is such a Big Adventure! Everyday, new and exciting ventures come our way that can change the destiny of others. It is said those who live their lives for others find greater fulfillment and happiness. I encourage you in the midst of your place in life to look for opportunities to give yourself away.

I have been offered one of those moments. Convoy of Hope, an international disaster relief and children's feeding organization, has asked me to join them this summer to give 10 days of my life away to the poor and suffering in Africa. Africa, with its different cultures and ideas, is a land of great poverty. We will be helping to feed hundreds of children and families in this oppressed continent. We are also going to do a School Extreme Makeover so that the children we are feeding can get a better education and escape their poverty. I'm excited to be going with my church, Glad Tidings.

Here is how you can help. I'm asking 150 people to consider giving me a one-time gift of $20. That will allow me to go and be your representative in this endeavor. It's not much, but if everyone can do just a little, we can make a difference together. Just think, your giving $20 can help to change a lifetime of poverty. You will get a tax deduction for your gift if you make the donation to Glad Tidings Church at 1280 Webster St, San Francisco, CA 94115. you can also give directly trough my paypal (its still tax deductible, just leave me all your info.)

Please send the donation to the church and mention my name so I can get credit for it. Also, if you could send me an email or text that you are partnering with me, it would help. My email is lisadanielled@gmail.com.

Thank you for considering this great adventure.

Eight months ago I began my life in full time ministry. Next month I hit a huge milestone: I graduate school. This month, April I begin the huge emotional and spiritual process of attaining my ministers credentials. For the Assemblies of God it is a very exacting process. There are so many ways to become 'ordained' today that AG keeps to great guidelines that make the process as clean as possible.
My biggest need for the moment? Supporters to help me pay for my test and the traveling I will have to do to get all of this finalized. The credentialing test ($75.00) is not particularly a lot of money, but for a full time intern-it is. I know that God provides through all things, and that is where everyone can be involved. Ten dollars. Fifteen dollars. Twenty dollars. That can go a long way with paying for this integral part for my test. This process of attaining credentials will take a minimum of five months. This is just the beginning of the path God has me on. I'd love for you to be apart of it.

More updates to come.
Aside from that do you see anything new and different on the blog? Yup! It's the donate button! It's really easy to use and you will be making a difference in the lives of San Franciscans at the same time. I have some great news that I will be sharing soon! Stay tuned. More news to come soon....L.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/06397433302927831563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2281704130759300823.post-70224343047481900282011-01-17T22:09:00.000-08:002011-01-17T22:09:05.962-08:00Some are called to go. Some are called to give. Some are called to go. Some are called to give.
Lisa Holcomb has been called to go.

Four years ago I responded to the call to go into ministry. After years of preparation, prayer, fasting, and working in the San Francisco community I had the opportunity to go on my first mission’s trip to Nicaragua in Summer of 2010. During the 10-day trip, we visited churches, the inner city of Managua as well as small villages with the most extreme poverty. We ministered to children and adults through song, dance, drama, puppetry and preaching the word. We also gave money and a week’s worth of food to over 1,000 families. My life was forever changed.
For the past six months I have been interning at Glad Tidings Discipleship Institute, a year-long ministerial internship program. This program placed me in full time ministry work, beginnignthe training for me to become a missionary within the next few years.

My dream is to help women in extremely impoverished countries. My goal is to partner with others to help create sustainable economies, build water wells, schools, and bring support to their churches. I firmly believe that the Church is here to feed the needs of the mind, body and soul. I want to be able to train others to teach women the skills to bring funding into their community. I don’t want to bring an American Ideal of capitalism into a foreign country, but rather reach people through their own culture and language. Culturally centered education and economy. My dream is big, and for me to succeed in this effort I will need your help. I need your help to meet my own personal needs, and to raise funds for this year’s missions trip to Monrovia, Liberia.
Here’s how you can give:
Purchase at MaryKay.com/DBarnwell. My friend, Denise Barnwell is an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay, the #1 skin care and cosmetics brand. Denise provides great customer service, including FREE shipping. Denise is donating 25% of every order to support my ministry. First, register on the website. Then you will be able to order online 24/7. When you check out, just type “for Lisa Holcomb” in the Comments box.

Gift Card for Safeway or Trader Joe’s. Both stores are within walking distance. All I need is $200 a month (I don’t eat much). Trader Joe’s gift cards are available only in the stores. You can purchase a Safeway gift card at the store or online at http://www.safeway.com

Clean out your closet! I would be so grateful for jeans (size 8) and T-shirts (medium). Seriously, we do a lot of hard work in the community, including painting. So your “old” jeans and all those T-shirts that you never wear can be put to good use. Besides me, there are 4 other young women. We need jeans in sizes: 8, 14, and 18. Tees in Medium to XL will be much appreciated.

Cash Donations to Glad Tidings Church
Tax-deductible donations can be made by check, money order or credit card if you would like to donate funds for the Africa Missions Trip in August 2011. The amount of money needed for this trip is $2,500.00. This cost will cover my flights to and from Liberia. An accounting of all funds will be available, and your donation is tax deductible.

You can also write personal donation checks directly to Lisa Holcomb, however, it will not be tax deductible. Please do not send donations directly for Lisa written out to Glad Tidings Church.

Make check or money order payable to: Glad Tidings Church
In the memo on your check, please write, “Africa Trip: Lisa Holcomb”.
Remember for donations directly for personal funds for Lisa Holcomb-please just make the check out to Lisa Holcomb
Donate online: Go to http://gtsf.org/tag/online-giving/
Note about designation “Internship Program: Lisa Holcomb”.

Mail donations – and words of encouragement to:
Lisa Holcomb
c/o Glad Tidings Church
1280 Webster Street

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST . . . Help spread the word. No amount of support is too little. Even if you’re not able to help right now, someone you know may be willing and able. Please share this email and become a friend on my Blogger Page “Gathering for the Harvest”.

I thank you in advance for your prayers and financial support.

Respectfully Yours,

This is what we would be doing in Monrovia and surrounding areas:

helping micro businesses flourish by giving them the tools that they need to get started
food distribution
drama
singing
puppetry just to name a few things.
This is much more than just going on a trip half way across the world.
This is to reach people for the Lord, this trip has been months in the making and is still in the process of moving. What I need from you is the support to do so.
I can write this letter with a different heart because I have been to Managua, Nicaragua and saw lives changed through hands who help and those who love the Lord. This is your chance to change the world.

This is where you come in. I need your help to make this happen. I have to raise $2500.00 for this endeavor. This will be the my traveling cost to Africa and back. It is not cheap.

How can you help?

Purchasing items from Marykay.com/dbarnwell or going to lisadanielledesigns.com. Or going to etsy.com and search for lisadanielledesigns.

If you would like to give straight out for this trip: your donations is tax deductible.

Thank you everyone
Please make sure to check them out and let's all learn how to live beyond ourselves!

L.D.L.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/06397433302927831563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2281704130759300823.post-45892092578506846672010-11-07T21:35:00.000-08:002010-11-16T00:03:29.519-08:00Buy to give:I know its always hard to figure out how to give through your lack. This is the great thing about the Christmas season, people give anyway.
There are two ways you can help live beyond yourself:
http://www.marykay.com/dbarnwell go to her website and purchase products from that site and 25 percent of your purchase will help me in my internship with personal expenses and helping me go on my next two missions trip next year to Africa and Central America in 2011.
You can donate to glad Tidings Church (www.gtsf.org) (put Lisa Holcomb Africa missions trip) in the memo box to place a tax deductible donation toward the missions trip(s).

Thirdly: go to www.livebeyondyourself.org and purchase a ticket for our concert featuring Tommy Walker! The concert is on December 3rd and you can only buy the tickets online. All the proceeds are going toward the Africa Missions Trip. Time is running out! Please purchase a ticket before November 22nd to get a ticket for $22.00!

Lastly: go to my website lisadanielledesigns.com and purchase items for Christmas. It will help me out a lot business wise and you get to have cute items.

You cal always to go http://www.etsy.com/shop/LisaDanielleDesigns if you want to purchase through there.

If none of these things appeal to you and you just want to give a gift card for the grocery store and call it a day, I won't stop you either.

Three ways to live beyond yourself, three ways to help me do the same.

Thanks everyone.L.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/06397433302927831563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2281704130759300823.post-32476342040438404262010-10-12T00:04:00.000-07:002010-10-12T00:04:15.300-07:00Care Package IdeasI found this article online on how to send care packages for college students:I basically am one and would deeply appreciate any of these items:
College can be a difficult transition, even for the most mature and well adjusted 18-year-old. In addition to talking to your child regularly, sending care packages is also a must. Depending on the needs of your child, care packages can contain an array of items. A care package should show your child you care, but also contain items that they want and need. Talk to your child and get input before sending the care package.

How to make a care package with food
The most common type of care package consists of food. While a lot of colleges offer meal tickets for cafeteria food, that’s not always sufficient. Students keep odd hours and need snacks on hand at all times. Fast food, in addition to being unhealthy, can also be costly – especially for college students. That’s where food related care packages come into play.

When sending food care packages, make sure that everything you send is non-perishable. Also take into account how much space your child has to store the items and whether or not your child has a stove, oven or microwave at their disposal.

Best foods for a college care package
Here is a list to get you started:

Bottled water

Candy bars

Gum

Canned soups

Cereal and oatmeal

Granola bars

Chips

Brownie mix

Rice crispie treats

Homemade cookies

Ramen noodles(chicken or beef)

Popcorn (kettle corn)

What types of health & safety items are best to include in a college care package?
When your child is off at college, fighting off germs will remain a constant struggle. Dorms are notoriously dangerous breeding grounds for all types of nasty bacteria, molds and viruses. Keeping everything as clean and sterile as possible is the best way to avoid getting sick.
The plastic container can be re-used by your child while at college to separate clothes, school books or any other number of things. Make sure that all fragile items are packed securely and that you clearly label the container.

No matter which kind of care package you are sending, make sure to add a personal touch. Include a hand written note, pictures of the family, homemade cookies and anything else that will make your child feel loved and remain motivated to do well at college.
I am training to become a missionary. I’m also finishing my last year in bible school with Berean School of The Bible and in the internship we will be doing multitudes of tasks from office work, to working physical labor to praying for people and ministering to them by youth group and taking people out to lunch and coffee and connecting with them.

My dream is big, and for me to succeed in this effort I will need your help. I need your help to meet my own personal needs, and to raise funds for next year’s missions trip to Africa.

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST . . . Help spread the word. No amount of support is too little. Even if you’re not able to help right now, someone you know may be willing and able. Wondering where I've been and why the blog has been so scant? Be assured in knowing that I have been interning, going to school, working hands on in ministry. It is work. Ministry. Is. Work. I think there is a huge misconception to what working 'in ministry' looks like. It's not just office work and sitting in a service. It's about logistics, time, sweat, paper, people, Jesus, more people, cleaning, Jesus...see where I'm going with this? Ministry does not end when the last person leaves the sanctuary and you get to go to sleep. It is more than just being 'on call' like a doctor.

Ministry is...so much more. It's job, its disappointment, its sadness when people fall from a huge height, it's excitement when people get back up after that fall. Ministry is waking up early to get a taste of the Lords presence and realizing that hour was just the beginning to getting a glimpse of His Glory. Ministry is working beyond fatigue, and still having that energy to do more when that person gets a breakthrough. Ministry is being image that Jesus was and pointing others in that same direction. It's being a person of integrity, character. It's a hard tightrope of being a minster to others and a family member to your wife, husband, children, ect. It's waking up in the middle of the night to pray for a teen who doesn't know how to handle the pressures of their household. It's just being quiet and listening to that mother who is at her last end because of her children. Ministry is having your focus be that ONE in the sanctuary to get a clearer picture of who Jesus is and WANTING that for themselves.

Ministry is seeing that reality of Jesus flash in someones eyes who recently was so stuck in their own stuff of life that they missed the point for so long. Ministry is cleaning, it's filing, it's listening, it's worshiping, it's falling in love with Jesus.

By the way.

We are all called to be ministers.L.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/06397433302927831563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2281704130759300823.post-88954499564867542262010-09-04T15:06:00.000-07:002010-09-04T15:06:33.088-07:00Being constantly broken before the Lord

God requires a perfect heart from those who follow him. David Wilkerson says a perfect heart is not what the world deems as perfect. The LORD says a perfect heart is a broken one before him. King David has been deemed as a "man after God's own heart." and he came to the Lord with a perfect heart. As we know-Dave was not exactly Dad of the Decade. He had an affair, murdered someone, his own family...well you thought Jerry Springer was intense....
David was an imperfect man with a perfect heart: he was willing to be broken over and over again.

A few days ago I was praying for God to break down the walls in my heart and named them for what they were. In those walls I saw different bricks and what those issues were. With the hands of Jesus over mine, I saw those walls come down.

The cry of my heart is that you have a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus. How much farther will you get with your relationship if you ask for his help to push down those walls of things that stop you?
<div style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<div style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Maybe you need to put the bricks & mortar down first.

We build some of the very walls we feel hinder us.

Only with the power of God and His grace and mercy will you experience freedom.

In Romans 8:4 (AMP) it says that God condemned sin in the flesh (subdued, overcame, deprived it) of all its power according to those who ACCEPT the sacrifice.

Accept the sacrifice, accept the help of the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Jesus, our Paraclete our helper, our Lord) to push those walls down.L.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/06397433302927831563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2281704130759300823.post-91034296535557925262010-08-31T23:25:00.000-07:002010-08-31T23:25:16.596-07:00The way to Begin

Most of my blog readers know me for totally different reasons. Not that those things are wrong, just different. This blog here is to mark a starting point of a journey I know God has placed me on. This is just the beginning of a process that will take time, patience, grace and laughter-because we all need it. I'm taking a deep breath and jumping into the unknown. I'll be posting a lot of things on this blog; most of them about what I want to do in ministry, new lessons I learn along the way and new projects that I'll be working on. Stay tuned and let everyone know about this blog.
